Pete Hodgson is a former veterinarian who has been the MP for Dunedin North since 1990.
Born and raised in Whangarei, he practised as a vet in Canterbury in the early 1970s and in England in the early 1980s. He has also worked as a high school science and mathematics teacher and manager of a range of small businesses.
In the late 1980s he was employed by the Labour party as a marginal seats organiser and he has an ongoing involvement with Labour's political strategy.
He is married with two adult sons and lives in Dunedin.
